Heart Failure
Patients

A 77-year-old patient with heart failure comes in for a scheduled check-up with her cardiologist.

• She becomes quickly short of breath during exertion and can no longer perform daily activities as she did a few months ago.
• Her blood pressure and heart rate values are normal, and she takes her prescribed medications regularly.

The cardiologist confirmed the worsening of her heart failure through a comprehensive examination.

• To prevent further deterioration of the patient's condition, her treatment was adjusted. An extra half of a tablet was added to her original dose of diuretic (i.e., medication "for fluid removal").

"Tailored" heart failure therapy using non-invasive remote monitoring of heart filling pressures

Achieving and maintaining euvolemia is crucial in the management of patients with heart failure (HF) and can pose a clinical challenge, particularly in older and polymorbid patients. Treatment of HF, adjusted based on data from implantable devices monitoring intracardiac pressure, has shown improvements in quality of life, survival rates, and reductions in hospitalization due to HF. In this case study, we illustrate how non-invasive home monitoring of left ventricular filling pressures can improve fluid balance in a 73-year-old patient with HFrEF and multiple comorbidities.

Utilization of a Non-Invasive Monitoring System for Heart Failure Based on A.I.: Overcoming Barriers in Clinical Practice and Preventing HF Decompensation

Heart failure (HF) is characterized by reduced quality of life, high mortality rates, and frequent hospitalizations. Despite comprehensive recommendations for pharmacological, device-based, and lifestyle treatment of HF, non-compliance remains a clinical issue contributing to increased mortality and hospitalizations for HF. Alongside standard care, new strategies for remote monitoring of HF patients based on hemodynamic principles present a promising approach to improving quality of life, survival, and preventing hospitalizations. In this case study, we describe how non-invasive telemonitoring of left ventricular filling pressures can enhance standard care for patients with HF and prevent cardiac decompensation caused by the pitfalls of usual clinical practice.

A New System for Telemonitoring Heart Failure Based on PPG Analysis Successfully Detected Increased Cardiac Filling Pressures in an Asymptomatic Patient with Undiagnosed Asymptomatic Hyperthyroidism.

Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can contribute to decompensation in heart failure (HF). Monitoring the rise in cardiac filling pressures is crucial in preventing symptoms and cardiac decompensation. HF therapy, adjusted based on monitoring of cardiac filling pressures, reduces hospitalization rates, improves quality of life, and enhances survival. This case from clinical practice highlights the benefits and possibilities of non-invasive monitoring of cardiac filling pressures and its potential for early detection of various clinical complications.
